When my wife and I went to see Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction a few weeks ago, our friend Brian brought along long time friend Holly Brewer. When we arrived at the show, we were walking around the grounds of the Comcast Center, just checking out the concessions. A few people came up to us, specifically Holly, and proclaimed, “You’re Holly, from HUMANWINE!” I didn’t quite know what they were talking about. Actually, Brian is quite the celebrity, having achieved some success and fame in his role with The Dresden Dolls, and now World Inferno/Friendship Society. Yet people kept noticing Holly. At one point we were passing by a LiveNation booth when Brian noticed Holly on a sign, advertising HUMANWINE. There she was again. Finally it dawned on me that apparently Holly’s in a band, called HUMANWINE. (I know, I’m a bit slow sometimes.)
So fast forward to this past weekend, HUMANWINE performed at Boston’s Paradise. She was kind enough to get me a photo pass. Ali came along with me, and we had a fantastic time. What a great act! Holly’s stage presence just captures everyone’s attention. There’s a sort of warmth to her that you can sense, and it’s very genuine. Sure, there’s some good ol’ fashioned pain and suffering, and political statements and so forth, and that’s the real meat in the meal, if you will. But Holly transcends that with her theatrical performance, her animations, and most importantly, her yearning, powerful, but warm vocal tones.
So, here are the pics for you’re viewing pleasure. Enjoy.
