Ferro Gaita is an amazingly energetic, infectious band from Cape Verde. According to a friend, they were outlawed before the revolution in 1974. Since then, they’ve grown in popularity across 3+ generations, attracting people from Cape Verdean descent and otherwise, at each and every show. Back home, in Cape Verde, Ferro Gaita, they have a reputation for giving all night concerts, providing entertainment and dance music until the early morning hours.
I photographed Ferro Gaita at Showcase Live in Foxborough, MA a few weeks ago. I shot nearly 24 gig of pictures! I was in awe of them, but mostly in awe of their ability to get the place more energized than I’d ever seen in a venue like this. People of all ages were in amazing spirits, dancing, and having the time of their lives. My wife, who went with me, found herself dancing with men in their 80s, and being asked to marry men much younger and go back home with them to Cape Verde! Thankfully she’s still here with me!
This was an amazing show that I won’t soon forget. To all the people I met that night, my apologies for taking so long to get these edited and up online. If I took pictures of you, please send me an email and I’ll send your pics over to you.
