A long time friend of mine is in a band out of NYC called World/Inferno Friendship Society. His name is Brian Viglione, one time/long time original member of The Dresden Dolls. Brian and World/Inferno were coming to Boston and he was kind enough to get me a photo pass so I can go nuts. And that I did. Aside from mostly red lighting, which I suspect is just part of their act, the lighting was pretty good. But perhaps most importantly, the show was fuckin insane! It was hardcore at its finest! It’d be a long time, probably about 12 years, since I’d seen a real, authentic, hardcore act. No doubt about that Jack Terricloth and his merry band are the real thing!
As a side note, one of the things I enjoy most about shooting a band or a theatre production is that there is usually a unique relationship that forms during the performance between the performers and the camera – not me, but the camera. On occasion I’ll catch a performer catching themselves staring straight into the lens. Sometimes there’s a moment where they seem almost shocked and annoyed at themselves, but more often than not I get a glimpse into the performer, their vanity, and their passion for performance and entertainment. There were a couple moments of moments like that with Jack and with Brian.
