My evening at Showcase Live to photograph En Vogue was a fun one, but one with a few more lighting challenges than I’d expected as well as a lot more stage action than I was expecting. The four members of En Vogue, as stunning and captivating as ever, were dashing around the stage like a game of three card… well make that four card monte. As they weaved in and out of various choreographed routines my lens was constantly having to refocus on my main subject. I’m a bit more discerning about the subject than maybe I should be at times like this. Some folks might say, “just shoot and hope you catch something.” But to me that just feels like dropping a stick of dynamite into a pond and hoping a big fish floats to the surface – I’d much rather cast a lure out there and skillfully reel one in. Anyway, the metaphor stands!
